Customer Reviews

Don't believe the bad reviewsI just received this brace in the mail and immediately put it on. I put it on while sitting and, like other reviews have stated, when I stood up, it fell to my ankles. The key to making this brace fit correctly is practice. I realized that when I put it on while standing I was able to adjust the brace correctly so that it fits properly. The other piece of advise it to make sure you have it on the right way. When I put it on the first time, I realized that I had it on upside down. I turned it around and it fit my thigh much better. I have large legs and this brace fits perfectly. 5Not perfect but worked for me!It takes a little work to get this brace to stay up. I've got thick thighs and at first it would slide down quickly. That said, with a little practice I was able to position it and tighten it so it stays up. It can take a couple of tries when putting it on, but does evebtually stay up. It helped my hurt knee greatly...so if you're overweight with knee problems, I say give it a shot! 4Slips down, but that can be fixed. So the biggest problem with having a much larger thigh than the area below the knee is that the knee brace slips off pretty easily. It really is a decent knee brace otherwise.I think I found a solution to the slipping problem though.Taking a clue from the method that holds up some knee-high pantyhose. I took a tube of clear household silicone (clear and flexible type) and made a series of rings around the inside of the brace. I used a finger (wet it with water to avoid sticking to the skin) and made sure the rings were flat and stuck to the fabric. After allowing this to dry for 24 hours, the knee brace stayed up all day. Thus, it seems the biggest problem with this brace is that the fabric does not create enough friction with the skin to keep it in place. Once that was fixed, the brace works really well and is comfortable. 4Very good quality knee bracesI have bought expensive braces in younger days, usually Breg, and Don Joy, which dont fit right now. These United Ortho, are very good braces, well worth the asking price and on par with the expensive braces.. Excellent quality, correct sizing and feel great. Arrived on time with 2 days shipping. An excellent buy. 5Real customer review - tips and responses to negative reviewsWOULD I BUY THIS AGAIN? YESI purchased this 4 days after injuring my knee. For me, the problem of pain was difficult, but instability was terrifying--it felt like the knee could hyperextend at any time. I work in an ER and see various injuries--this probably contributes to my fear. This is hinged with metal boning on the sides. Mine prevents hyperextension completely. I work double shifts back-to-back and after 3 days of working, my knee actually felt better so I could tell that I wasn't re-injuring it.I am a review reader and want to address the complaints/comments that concerned me:SIZING--I measured twice-this is a little roomy for me. I am guessing that it's because I didn't take the swelling into account. It might be wise to measure both legs to see if there is a difference. It has a lot of leeway, but if you are honestly on the border between 2 sizes and dieting, the smaller one might be better for you.SLIDING DOWN--I work with a police officer that has had multiple knee injuries and uses various knee braces. She told me that the sliding is often from swelling that is reduced when you put it on. The pressure from the brace actually reduces the size of the knee. Her recommendation was to put it on, wear it for 15-30 minutes, and then completely open it and put it back on. I agree with her. After using this method, I didn't have to readjust it at all during my work day. Also, make sure you put it on while standing. I sit to put it on and stand up to retighten the straps.SLIDING OF THE VELCRO STRAP on the thigh--this is an issue for me. My solution was to fold a strip of old T-shirt around it and tuck it into the top opposite of the sewn attachment. The sliding didn't reduce function, it just made my skin itch in the opening where the plastic rubbed.METAL HINGED BONES--They probably won't poke you if you have the right size and position them where they bend with the knee. Mine only have poked me whne I needed to readjust position. I learned how to get that right on my first day wearing it. Wearing the brace low made this happen, too. Playing with the hinges helped me to see how they should work.SWEAT--Yep, it is thick and wraps around a part that gets a lot of use. You're gonna sweat. I could see the salty borders inside in a few hours. My experienced friend said that you can put a sock or t-shirt under it, (mine would NOT stop sliding that way) but that you just have to accept the sweat as part of what you put up with. All of her different braces result in sweat. She did caution me that this makes it a perfect breeding ground for staph and recommended that I wipe it down after each use with germ-killer.BUNCHING UP behind the knee--To remedy this, when I stand up to retighten, I give the upper center back a good tug, then the sides, then the back again. Solves it for me. 5If it's sliding down maybe you are wearing it too low. This is the second brace I've tried and I've been having the sliding down problem like a lot of people. After experimenting I think this brace (and probably all the over the counter ones) are designed for men (most things are) and thus assume a longer leg. I finally figured out that I was probably wearing it too low because my calf is shorter than their prototype human. So, I brought it much farther up my leg than seemed right, so that the bottom band sits above my calf muscle and right under my knee. It makes the front hole seem too high, but I don't think it is. For one it feels much more comfortable, and so far doesn't slip. My knee feels protected but bends easily. It goes all the way up to my mid-thigh, so that will skew the measurements, but luckily it still fits me. Hopefully that makes it work when walking (cause that's what it's for). 4Also converts to an inflexible brace.I got this for my other half because he sprained his knee, and it is doing very nicely for him. I paid attention to the reviews that discuss sizing so we got a proper fit. When it first arrived we thought that there were not, in fact, any hinges. Something that I haven't seen mentioned is that the hinges are reversible. If you flip them one way, they allow the knee to flex. Flip them the other way, and it becomes an inflexible brace (we noticed the little "IN" markings when we opened it up to look again). This is GREAT because it means on days when he needs more support, he can just flip them to the inflexible side, and we don't need a second brace. 5OsteoArthritis Pain - Nearly Completely Eliminated!Follow the sizing chart and measure accurately. I LOVE this product! I've suffered with the pain of osteoarthritis of the knees for over a decade, and it had gotten to the point that I couldn't even stand, let alone walk without constant, excruciating pain. My doctor recommended a custom-made knee brace, and told me it was the only way (shy of knee replacement) to lessen the pain. Rather than spending the $1000 plus for a custom fit, I decided to try an off the shelf version. I am SHOCKED at how well this works!I read several reviews, and it seems most of the problems stem from an ill-fitting brace. I followed the chart, measured a few times to make sure I had an accurate measurement, and landed on 24". Since 25" is on the top end of XL and the low end of XXL, I trusted the reviews and trusted my measuring, and I ordered the XL. It fit perfectly, and gave me immediate relief of most of the pain and discomfort! I have had it for only 5 days, but I'm able to walk again, even around those big-box stores, and I don't have to use those rider-carts.Since one of my knees is far worse than the other, I only ordered one brace, to try it out. I will definitely be buying another! 5Keeps Knee from CollapsingI have very severe bone-on-bone arthritis in my knee from an accident as well as a meniscus that is constantly being torn by the rough bone. While waiting for a knee replacement, my doctor fitted me with a Donjoy offloading brace, which did absolutely nothing to help the stability of my knee and greatly increased the pain. I lost some weight, making the rx brace too big, and wanted something that would just provide some general support to my knee to help keep it from collapsing. This brace was exactly what I needed. It's not extremely comfortable (I've never found a good knee brace that was), but it is far better than my offloading brace, even adjusted as neutrally as possible. The hinges are thick and sturdy, and they provide just enough stability that my knee doesn't collapse as often while wearing it. The hinges can also be removed for washing or if you want to wear it without hinges. That would make it useless for my purposes, but it would be far more comfortable without them if you don't need them. 5Just What the Doctor OrderedI am very pleased with the "Wrap Around Hinged Knee Brace" in XXL. It fits well, and really helps-- I have hypermobile joints & am prone for strains and sprains. Sometimes I need an immobilizer (twice this year, already!), so I am extremely happy that this hinged brace easily converts to become an immobilizer! The hinges allow me to go up the stairs easier than I have ever been able to do before! Great support and easily adjustable. Great for me to have, since I've strained one knee twice this year! This is truly "just what the doctor ordered." After trying out one, I bought a second, because I often have problems with both of my knees. I am so glad I did, because this fits better than my previous "medical-issued" immobilizer. The best part for me is the fit. Around my knee is 22-inches, but my thigh gets dramatically bigger (up to 27-inches at one point!), and I do have larger calves than most women. To find something that fits enough to give me good compression and stability, with versatility is a "God send."I highly recommend this product. Be sure to measure below your knee, around your knee, and above your knee, then look for the closest size for your measurements. The ONLY "con": brace sometimes needs readjusted (but that happens with ANY brace that I've ever had, for various joints). And, okay, one more, which isn't necessarily applicable to all people. There are times it is difficult for me to get the brace positioned and strapped on correctly, but that is because of my health issues, more so than an issue w/ the brace.Again-- I HIGHLY recommend this product and I am very happy I have TWO of them for my knees. 5
