Great sling for a not brand new fractureI recent fractured my humerus right below the humeral head and was fortunate enough to not require surgery nor a cast. Well, I could have had a case but they would have had to wrap it around the other side of my body and well, you get the picture. These type fractures are essentially a shoulder fracture and very painful. The humerus is a large bone and with the fracture that high, shoulder mobility is affected and any movement is excruciating in the beginning. I purchased this sling because the cheapO one they sent me home with was very uncomfortable. This sling has an immediate "Ahhhh" feel because it is soft and has some give. The downside to that is that it has some give so with a new fracture, you don't want that because the slightest movement will take your breath away. I think this sling is better suited for a 2 week or older fracture when mobility doens't hurt like the dickens. What I really liked about it was that I could throw the strap over my shoulder then situate my arm in it and put the sling on by myself. I also liked that as it loosened from the weight of my arm (the strap didn't loosen, the fabric is stretchy and gives) I could just un-velcrow and re-velcrow a little tighter with one hand. This became an almost automatic thing for me during the day: loosen, tighten, loosen, tighten. It was comfortable to wear and I would not hesitate to purchase it again for a not brand new fracture. 4The Most Comfortable Arm SlingI love the material, as it does stretch. I used 4 different slings after total shoulder replacement surgery and this was the only one that was very comfortable. It's the best!! The material not only stretches, but it is light and cool. There is a place to insert your wrist for even more support. I highly recommend this arm sling. 5Comfy and looks greatIn general, the more comfort you have on an ergonomic product, the less stabilization you have. This sling is very comfortable. The fabric is stretchy, which gives the comfort. Unfortunately, that stretch material pulls your arm down. I just had surgery and the sling they gave me after surgery is much more stable but of course, not nearly as comfortable and pretty hard to put on without assistance. So that is what you need to decide, which is more important. I bought this because I needed to immediately return to work and knew this would look a lot nicer than the one I received from the doctor.I am wearing a black shirt and you can barely notice that I am wearing a sling. 4UNBELIEVABLE COMFORT AND SUPPORT!!! THIS IS THE SLING I SHOULD HAVE HAD FROM THE BEGINNING!!!I had an accident in December, breaking my shoulder and totally tearing my rotator cuff. I've had to put off surgery until the end of June and have worn different slings -- constantly in the beginning and on and off depending on my discomfort level as I head for surgery. After the surgery I will have to be in a sling for 6 weeks, and then intermittently. I've been searching for a sling I could be comfortable yet supported in for the summer. I saw this sling, read the reviews and decided to try it. I put it on a few days ago and couldn't believe how comfortable and relieved I felt. This is the sling I should have had from the beginning!! I then found out they have a swathe for it, to immobilize my arm. Not sure why they don't give you the choice to buy it as a set -- that is my only complaint. The strap is so adjustable that no adult need worry about adjusting it to fit. Now that I know what will get me through this long recovery process, I just ordered two more slings and two swathes. What a find!!! 5It is indeed the ultimate sling! This sling is everything it is cracked up to be. I have a badly broken wrist and have been through several splints and casts and this sling made getting around and doing things bearable. It is stretchy, but not too stretchy, and the way it is designed makes it very flexible as to size (I am 5'3 and weigh 130lbs). I am a college professor and it made lecturing doable. 5Great for some, not for othersIf you re a male or wide female with a hand or wrist injury, this is the sling for you. Comfortable and stretchy fabric with support at the wrist area. However, if your injury is further down on your arm, the stretchy fabric doesn t give support. If you re an average or thin woman, the Velcro will be at your neck and rub against it. 2Snug, soft and very easy to adjust to your personal comfort!Got this for my mom, who is very petite. The hospital issued a standard sized sling but the material was very slick/slippery (presumably for easy cleaning) and baggy at the elbow. This sling is made from a very soft material that stretches very slightly, ensuring a snug fit on the arm/cast. It is also lightweight and very easy to clean. Highly recommended! 5Really good sling with a few minor flawsBottom line: I would buy this one again even with its minor flaws. My injury was a broken left clavicle, which is my non dominant side. Wore this sling nearly 24/7 for about 4 weeks, after 1 week of wearing the instacare provided sling + swathe (note, I did not purchase the Joslin swathe). The bad:- The shoulder strap could be wider. Doesn't need to be much, like a 1/2" wider. This would help with spreading out the weight of the arm in the sling. As well as be wider than the velcro patch, so less chance of velcro being exposed.- The fabric stretches, especially the shoulder strap.- Could use a bit of reinforcement in the forearm area. The good:- Extremely easy to setup, put on, and adjust one handed with no extra assistance needed.- The material is sufficiently breathable and comfortable for what I would expect in a sling. It was no problem to wear against my chest/stomach underneath a shirt as I couldn't put my arm through a shirt sleeve for a few weeks.- Outside of the stretching, it is fairly durable, especially the velcro patch which was a concern of mine at first. But no signs of the velcro failing after all my time of wearing it.- Very lightweight.- No metal involved. So it can be left on when taking X-rays or going thru security at an airport.- The thumb straps at the end are useful and generally comfortable. For sizing, I got the Average Adult. And I generally wear XL clothing and have about a 35-36 length sleeve for dress shirts. The sling came about an inch short of my knuckles.Note: I also tried the other popular sling here, with the Split Strap, and found the Joslin one to be much better. 4Inexpensive and superior!Stays in place and easy to adjust the length of the drop. This sling is far better functioning and much more comfortable than the canvas one I got from the orthopedist or the collar-and cuff from the second orthopedist for my broken humerus and fractured wrist. And way cheaper. Can't believe what the doc billed the insurance company for the garbage sling I got from him that needed safety pins and make my neck and back sore. I'm 5'2" and the spandex would be roomy for a longer arm but works for me too. I have a humeral brace on upper arm and splint from hand to elbow and it's all good. Physical therapist asked about this sling for her other clients. 5Adult size a little too small - not a great value for $27Other slings were available at less than half the price, but I didn't care about the price. I wanted the best possible lightweight and comfortable sling I could find. The "Ultimate Arm Sling" looked like the best one and I was attracted by the cotton spandex construction. When I received it, I noticed how minimal it was, weighing only 2.8 ounces. I thought, the excellent design must have enabled the minimal use of materials. Then I started wearing it - very soft and stretchy. But after a while, I noticed that it really was not providing good support for my forearm. The reason was that I was getting support primarily at the elbow and wrist/thumb, but not in the middle area of the forearm, which bothered me a bit. The spandex below this mid area was a little loose.Another item which surprised me was the fit. Of the three sizes, I picked the middle/adult size, since I am about 5'-9" and weigh 160 lbs. Surprisingly, after while, I noticed myself trying to loosen up my thumb in the loop provided. (two loops are thoughtfully provided, for right and left arm use). And the reason this was feeling tight was that the adult size was still a little undersized for the length of my forearm. But I would not have considered the largest size which appeared way too big. So the sling didn't fit perfectly, and the spandex was a little loose in supporting the mid forearm area.A curved bottom stitch which introduces upward camber in the middle area might help support of the forearm, and velcro-adjustable thumb loops might help the position of my thumb. But I'm also wondering if the spandex is a little too stretchy for this kind of function. So unfortunately my impression of this item is not perfect and I gave it only three stars, because of the "value for price" paid which it represents for the consumer. The sling is a relatively easy item to construct - 2.8 ounces of spandex and velcro - so, what's with the $27 price for a product which is not quite perfectly designed or sized?Had I known this before ordering, I would not have purchased this sling, however at a $12 to $15 price, it could still be a good buy for those wanting a very soft and stretchy sling, provided the forearm length fits. 3
