Customer Reviews

Not sure where all the good reviews come fromIt appears the reviews are bundled so note that my review is solely for the small box of the English Breakfast Tea.I am extremely disappointed. I love loose leaf teas and english breakfast is one of my favorites but this was just gross. First the "leaves" are literally almost ground into a powder, making a lot of dust and grit go through the infuser and into your mouth *yuck* also the first cup I made was pretty weak so I made sure to let it really steep to get a better flavor and it worked, unfortunately the flavor was odd. I wouldn't call it bitter but there is something "off" about the taste. It's not the worst cup of tea I've ever had but def will be tossing this and getting something better.1Maybe the best tea I've ever tastedI waited a good long time to write this review. At the time I bought it, I didn't have my other favorites on hand: TH Scottish Breakfast, TH Yorkshire Gold, Red Label (for chai) or Empress Hotel tea from Victoria, BC. I still don't have the Empress tea to make a direct comparison so I'll update my review when I get that one again, as this Doomur Dullung is now my #1 favorite, tied with Empress Tea.This tea is soft, rich, complex and deep and makes my tongue curl in a delicious mouthwatering curve. I taste in shapes and textures, and this tea provides a soft, delicate yet rich and deep double wave in my mouth. It's quite remarkable, really. At first I liked it but didn't think it was anything *that* special. Then I tried it again after a few weeks of only Scottish Breakfast (my other standby favorite to go with cream and sugar) and it was really gorgeous, and I noticed the complexities much more. For brewing, I would recommend *not* following the traditional English instructions. Instead, I prefer this tea much more and find the flavor develops to more richness and complexity if I drop the leaves into boiling water (still on the stovetop), stir around for 10-15 seconds and let it boil, then remove from heat, cover for 5 minutes and strain. This is closer to the Indian method. As this is truly an Indian tea, perhaps its best qualities come out this way. It also makes great chai, blended with Scottish Breakfast. This is definitely an outstanding tea, worth having in your cupboard if you are a connoisseur. If you like Lipton or PG Tips (both pale and weak to my palate), I would guess you might not want to bother.Enjoy your tea!5Dust and no flavor, wish it wasn't so...Dust in the wind. I read the reviews, but skipped the one star reviews. This was my mistake. The tea leaves are almost dust and no flavor. I'm giving 2 stars for the beautiful package. One star for the tea. I purchased another loose tea from Amazon, which I have enjoyed. I opened this beautiful packaged tea and was disappointed. If you see my pictures the leaves on the left are nice and large. The leaves on the right are my disappointing purchase. Live and learn.3Best cup I have ever had.Seriously. This makes the smoothest cup of hot tea I have ever enjoyed. I was looking for my regular favorite Irish Breakfast tea, when I decided to give this a try. I am so glad I did. This tea has no bitterness to it at all. I take my tea with only milk or cream. It needs nothing else. It seems to have a slight natural sweetness. But not at all "doctored up" like all these new flavored concoctions. I am amazed at how cheap it is! To me, this is the sort of flavor that merited those lovely locking tea caddies of earlier centuries. It manages to be both hardy and luxurious at the same time. Now, if I could only find a man with those virtues!5Exotic, smoked tea is wonderful mixed with other teas.Wonderful smoky fragrance (it's smoked over a wood fire), very hard to find locally (even at tea shops!), so glad to find a good source. I mix 1/3 Lapsang with 1/3 Earl Gray and 1/3 Black Tea to make an incredible flavored and aromatic tea. My thanks to Sebastian Houseman for the recipe!5Taylors Tea TipsTaylors of HarrogateAll of the reviews for the different types of teas are congregated together here, so I won't address any specific type of tea.I will say (for those who are not aware) that the boxes of loose tea contain tea inside of a 4.4 oz. gold-foiled bag.If you purchase the Taylors "tins" of tea, they come with the same gold foil bags inside of them. These boxes are a bit less expensive than those "tins".TIPS:*I buy one Taylors "tin" of tea and re-use the tin because it looks nice and is a great way to store the tea.*You only need to buy the tin once, then refill with these boxes which give you the exact same tea, fresh in sealed bags.*If you want to keep your tea even fresher, keep just a week or so supply in the tin while storing the rest in a completely air-tight container (the tins are only somewhat air-tight).*Don't forget to check for an Amazon coupon, as they appear on these teas from time to time.*In case you need an infuser, this one is my favorite- OXO Good Grips Twisting Tea Ball*Even though all of these tea reviews are consolidated, you can enter a tea name in the "search customer reviews" box on the right, that way you can find the reviews that you are interested in.~hope this helped~4Too much, not too goodThis product sounded so good from the description, but...The first red flag was the strong odor of burnt wood in the package. It overwhelmed the senses to where I couldn't smell anything else. Yet still, I forged through to try it anyway. I let it brew and (second red flag) the whole kitchen smelled like a wood stove - or rather the smell of backed up smoke from a wood stove that saturates your clothes and lets EVERYONE you you come in contact with within a 10 ft radius that you have a wood stove, a faulty wood stove - and then the third red flag... after it was brewed, it looked like bong water and the final red flag, which is no longer a red flag at this point but a big 'i tried to tell you" kind of situation... the taste assaulted my taste buds for HOURS and literally made me feel like I had licked a piece of charred wood pulled from the fire pit. NOT GOOD.Now, granted, this might be someone's idea of a good tea and I can only imagine it would be a heavy smoker with no taste buds, but as for me... this tea has turned me off from ANY TEAS from Taylors & Harrogate. I just don't trust any products from this company now.1Good, BUT, Pay attention to the Instructions!I'm not kidding! On my first attempt I let the leaves sit in the water WAY too long and ended up dumping most of the pot. Knowing that some teas can be very persnickety about water temp, steeping time and such, I cleaned the pot out and made a second pot and steeped the tea for 4 minutes. The tea itself is what I like to call 'tea dust'; I usually turn my nose up at that, but I will admit that a few of my favorites (H&S Scottish Morn, Barry's Irish Breakfast and Taylor's Scottish Breakfast) also have small leaves or dust. The aroma has a faint flower & tea scent that is very pleasant. The color is reddish brown. At 4 minutes of steeping the flavor is light and floral, and easy drinking tea. I tend towards a stronger tea (Assam, Yunnan or Genmaichi) but I can certainly imagine this tea being my preference at times, especially during the late morning or early afternoon.- Next time I will steep the tea six minutes and see what differences I taste.4Smoked Ain't No JokeI love this brand of tea. Usually, it's quite good. So, I decided to try this particular flavor. I was intrigued when the description said the leaves were "smoked". Well, when it arrived I discovered they weren't kidding. I made a cup of tea and the scent and smell of smoke was distinctive. I enjoyed the tea to a point. It is very smokey tasting. If that's something you like, then you should try it. It's just strong.2great tea strong enough to be called ScottishThis Scottish Breakfast Tea tastes somewhat like Taylor's excellent 'red label' Yorkshire Tea (the original English version, not the low-quality 'Packed in UAE' version) but is even a bit more robust, darker, and richer-flavored, with a slight natural 'floral' sweetness. It's a blend of Kenyan and Assam black tea. This is rolled loose leaf tea, so enough flavor remains for a second helping. It comes sealed in an airtight foil bag inside a blue cardboard box.And it's a lot of tea so its a great value as well. Store it in an airtight container and you'll have weeks or months worth of some of the richest black tea flavor.5
