Finally getting oxygen to my brain! WOOHOO!I basically only write reviews for products that I either love or hate. Happy to say this is a LOVE IT! I have structural issues with my nasal passages that really make it a challenge to breathe with when I ride (bike). I was feeling a bit hopeless as I hadn t found a reasonable solution (short of surgery), so I just took a chance and ordered this device with low expectations. I just tried it for the first time this morning and I it actually seems like a game changer. It was a little bit of a challenge to get it situated correctly (but it s the first time I ever used it, so that s reasonable). But once it was in position (even before I started riding) I had clear airways. Once I was out and working hard on the bike, I felt like I was getting oxygen to my brain for the first time! I didn t experience any discomfort with it in my nose, and it really kept my nasal passages open I could breathe hard through my nose with my mouth closed, which is a first. It also stayed put (I got the multi-pack and tried the medium size first, seemed just right). The only issue so far is that it was a bit difficult to clear a runny nose (riding in cold weather). BUT, for the apparent benefit, I ll figure it out. Just reordered. Fingers crossed this is a long-term, non-surgical solution. 5Stayed put for a sub 10 hour Leadville 100!This is one amazing product! I used it during the Leadville Trail 100, and after 100 miles it was still in my nose and helping me to breath. I have a deviated septum, so this is a real miracle product. I've used the adhesive strips in the past, but they always fall off. This was the first product that stayed put.Breathing is easier. I'm not sure if I'm getting more air in, but it is definitely easier to breath. The most notable impact is when I'm eating and drinking. No more choking on water and food! One thing, be prepared to have a lot of people ask about it. Everyone is curious about it and how well it works. 5Your mileage may vary...As a distance runner, I found these to be more of a distraction than a help. These did help dilate my lower nostrils but, I found out that, for me at least, the flow of air is usually restricted more by the turbinators, which are a lot further up the nose than these go. I guess for some people this might help (as evidenced by the really good reviews on here), but if you really aren't getting enough air while you're exercising -- or even if you're not exercising -- I'd go see a doctor to get the underlying issue identified and resolved rather than relying on these. 3Very Uncomfortable, Despite Positive EffectsI breathe through my mouth, for better and worse. So to improve my breathing at night I wore this for several months while I slept. I also taped my mouth shut using 3M micropore tape. The nasal dilator feels okay at first, but becomes a sore aching feeling after a few minutes and can be a real challenge to sleep with, always waking up in pain and discomfort. I bought the variety pack so I could try different sizes and adjusted the nasal guides every way possible (including wearing it upside-down), but the pain was caused by the regular operation of the device, pressing against the inside of my nose to spread my nostrils. I find it hard to believe that other people can wear these comfortably; I noticed a difference in ease of breathing, but it wasn't enough to get over the consistent pain and discomfort that the device caused. The 3M tape alone made more of a difference for me, and I stuck with that for much longer. 1Best Product for an Unintended PurposeI looked into these as I've been dealing with sinus problems for a long time and I've often worn Breathe Right strips at night to help me sleep. I figured they'd give me a similar benefit during all the mountain biking I do. For those who have no sinus issues to begin with, it may not be helpful as some reviews have already pointed out. For me, the difference is immediately noticeable.Interestingly, I found these even more useful as a replacement for my sleep-time Breathe Right strips. I've also tried similar products that use some sort of rubber or silicon tubes that are inserted in the nose in a similar fashion (you can find them here on Amazon). However, I felt like those are harder to get used to and I don't like how they line the entire inside of my nose. Now that I'd tried the sampler and know that medium works best for me, I'll be buying more to use as a sleep aid. 5Truth in Advertising, With a Few Drawbacks...They do what they claim, albeit somewhat uncomfortably. I find that after about 30 minutes of use, my nose starts getting irritated and they become noticeably uncomfortable and distracting. Also, twice now I've developed mild sinus infections within 36 hours of use. I have no prior history of sinus infections. While it is possible, I doubt that it is due to some kind of bacterial or viral contamination, as I soak them in both hydrogen peroxide followed by rubbing alcohol after each use.I do however have chronic allergies, and so I wonder if the dramatically increased flow of airborne irritants like pollen and dust etc. is to blame?Regardless, I've never breathed easier during strenuous activity. They do indeed work, just not sure if I can continue using them. 3Worked with my deviated septum and running! Noticeable differenceFirst of all, anyone interested in trying this product out, purchase the assorted size to determine which dilator is the correct size for you. I knew my septum in my nose was deviated, but never thought that it had a major effect on my cardio. That was, until I decided to use the Breathe Right Nasal Strips casually at home. I realized how deep of breathes I could take nasally with only the external strips, but the adhesive kept coming off. I needed a more solid solution, that was not surgery. In my preparation for my first half-marathon about 1 month out, I figured it wouldn't hurt to try as my distances seemed to plateau. Every time I used the dilators, I really felt the difference. I was able to run the distances expected. I'm a bigger guy with a narrow nose bridge, and a noticeable deviated septum when observed up close. I especially noticed when I forgot the dilators on a 5K shortly after the half marathon. It was tough for a relatively flat 5K course.PROS:+ I do reuse them. I wash them off after each use. I've been using the same Large pair for over a year now, but ordering an additional 3 pack after losing my Large dialator.+ 100% worked for me, where nasal strips would slip off mid-jogs+ Assorted size allowed me to learn that I should be using a Medium to Large. Testing out each in a run+ A must have when performing any cardio. Although, I haven't needed while hiking yet.+ They stay in place about almost 95% of the time. The other 5% of the time, is usually when i'm furrowing my nose. All I'd need to do to correct this, is to push the dilator back into place. It takes about 5 seconds max.+ Cheaper alternative to surgery. As an active person, who only feels the effects of a deviated septum while doing cardio... this is great!CONS- Somewhat uncomfortable the first few times you use them. I've learned that I need to have them in my nose a few minutes before my cardio action to allow my nose to adjust to them. Usually my nose will become slightly congested because of me shoving it up my nose. After a while it clears up and I can take in full breathes completely through my nose. This doesn't lower my rating, because I would expect my nose to react like this with anything in my nose for a long period of time.Overall I would recommend these dilators to anyone that is looking at an inexpensive solution to improve cardio performance with a deviated septum. 5I can actually breath!Deviated septum user...after wearing this working out for 3 weeks, I'm sold. There have been times I think it isn't working, so I pull it out of my nose - at this point I realize how horrible my air flow is and say "holly sh!t, this is working."Only downside is that it's difficult to wipe sweat from the tip of your nose when wearing...tough habit to break for me. If you've got nostrils of differing sizes, like I do because my nose is so crooked, you may have trouble with sizing. Medium works for me, but the "length" of the "U" shape that goes between my nostrils is a little long. The small version is prefect, but the diameters of the pieces that expand your nostril are too small...regardless, the product works.I was able to get 15 workout sessions out of one piece...clean your nose out before use and it will last. Best part of all...no strips to come unglued only to go into the trash because they can't be reapplied 5Not the best for meDidn't work for me. I use the SleepRight brand and it works well for me, but I wanted something brightly colored so it's easier to find if I drop it on the floor (my carpets are the same beige color as that brand nasal dilator). Also, if you need to use them during the day and you're not alone, the beige color just makes it look like there's a snot hanging out of your nose. Most brands are beige - I suppose the idea is to make them less visible against the skin, but I think they should rethink that.Anyway, this Rhinomed Turbine was the only one I could find that is similarly shaped as the one I use and like, so I decided to try it, but it doesn't work well for me. It's not as easy to use, it's a bit too stiff, and the shape is actually what's making it not as good - the parts that are keeping your nostrils open on the SleepRight are at about 45 degree angle from the middle part that connects them, and on this Rhinomed Turbine they are at about 90 degree angle, which makes the entire thing simply less comfortable to use and more shallow. That shape makes it less adaptable to the shape of the nostrils, makes it not go in deep enough (it's shallow, so it opens up the end of your nose, but if the middle is where the problem is that's not of much help), it's uncomfortable, and doesn't stay in as well. This is all individual, of course, but for me it's not a good fit.Pros: brightly colored (easy to see if you drop it, other people won't think that it's a snot)Cons: shape not the best - too rigid, doesn't adapt well to the shape of one's nostrils, doesn't stay in well, not deep enough. 3Outstanding fit, comfort, and materials, but at pro athlete costsI was skeptical when I first tried this. I was burned out on Breathe Right Nasal Strips, Small/Medium, Tan, 30-Count Boxes (Pack of 2). I saw these recommended so tried both these and SleepRight Nasal Breathe Aid, 3 ct.. I used both for about a month each. The Rhinomed are advertised for use during athletic endeavors, and for me they provided a perceptible increase in the amount of air I was able to exchange during more strenuous sprints, especially sustained efforts. During moderate exertion they didn't seem to confer as much benefit. One thing I really liked about the Turbine is its comfort level. I've only adjusted the diameter of the size medium dilator that I use once. And I'm impressed with the quality of the material and manufacturing. It just fits perfectly, and is something I can wear all day on extended climbs and not be bothered by it. And more recently I've tried using them at night instead of during exercise, and for me that is probably a more beneficial use of these. They are substantially more comfortable than the SleepRight Breath Aid, which unfortunately only comes in one size, and I'm not that size. The considerable downside of the Turbine is its cost, which is three times more than the Breathe Aid. At this price point I don't see them staying relevant. I'll keep using the Turbines I have until I run out, but price will probably steer me towards using them only when necessary. 5
