Great ValueThe coffee was fresh and tasted great. I like a bit more boldness but the flavor is rich, has a smooth fullness that is comforting. I could taste hints of cocoa. It's the kind of coffee you want to finish and ask for more. It taste good cold even though I haven't cold brewed or made iced coffee.5Excellent coffee at a great priceLooking to reduce cost of our coffee outlay I decided to buy these 5 lb bags from Fresh Roasted Coffee LLC. I bought the 100% Decaf Colombian and the Dark Brazilian. Typically we do a 50/50 blend. Initially I was very impressed with the rich flavor and great taste of both these roasts. While I first did a 50/50 blend I also brewed individual pots of each to sample. Either way it is great tasting coffee. I only make 8 - 10 cups a day so I freeze the coffee until I grind a weeks worth. But after 2 months the coffee is just as good as on day one. Highly recommended!5Yummers!Coffee was wonderful. First I ever ordered from FRC and the next two came from the same roasters. I agree with the review that state it is a bit oily...does not clog a burr grinder...might stick to the walls of the receptacle a bit but who cares? Outstanding effort. Dark...rich...some of the best coffee I have had in recent memory. Honduran...good but not my cup of tea, so to speak. Blackbeard's Revenge next and it was phenomenal.Live in Chicago and a big fan of Dark Matter...these guys seem slightly less experimental...and still awesome...will not hesitate to plow through more of their offerings. Hoping next to try something a bit citrus-y...will look for an option and hope they have one! Feel luke I have found a secret little gem...nobody I know has heard of these guys before...but they are all hearing now :)5had I paid more I would rate it at best maybe a 3I am giving this a four star rating only because of the price, had I paid more I would rate it at best maybe a 3.5 stars. It's decent coffee, but if you like it strong you have to use maybe 25% more than you normally would with say a french roast or Italian roast. The coffee is flavorful, not too many "notes" of oak, citrus, etc. I like to have something other than strong-tasting French Roast occasionally and this did the trick. The coffee beans arrived dry, no oil present which I always get with Starbucks or even the coffee beans Costco sells, but the taste was decent nevertheless. I would order again, unless the price was higher.4Acrid SmellI ve bought and been gifted a lot of different varieties from FRC. The smell and taste of those have been wonderful. When I opened a bag of the Dark Brazil it smelled putrid. The odor was acrid and burnt (had also bought a bag of the Mexican Chiapas which was just as bad). I did eventually give it a fair chance and it was drinkable with plenty of cream and sugar. I would not buy either of these varieties again.3Excellent coffee for the priceExcellent coffee for the price. We like dark roasts but without the bitterness. Beans are oily with good aroma. Acidity is low. A brewed cup tastes delicious, almost cocoa-ish. I would say this is more of a medium-dark roast. We have been ordering for 6+ months now and the beans are consistent with every order. We have been pleasantly pleased with this version of dark roast and continue to order.5Bold coffee, but not bitter.We prefer a dark roast, although that is hard to find that is not bitter. This coffee struck a good balance of dark without being over roasted. Very nice, would buy again.Update: After trying several different coffees here on Amazon, we have settled on this one. Used up the last bag, bought another.Side note: My wife also likes it, BUT still leans toward Community Dark Roast. ( I admit,it's good as well). But she does add "Chicory" to it. >Old Lousiana trick to cut bitterness.<5Matches the genuine Brazilian coffee I loved years ago.Had some genuine Brazilian coffee several years ago and thought it was the best coffee I had ever tasted. It is dark, bold, and has a unique flavor that I loved. I have tried several coffees since then, but none came close in character. This Dark Brazilian Cerrado is a match. I will be purchasing a larger bag next time. Keep this product tasting the way it is now and priced reasonably and I will be a long term customer.5B+ for these Brazilian BeansI took a chance on some Brazilian beans, as I cannot honestly say that I ever remember having enjoyed any. I grind the beans and directly use them in a french press. Somethings I have noticed about this particular set of beans, is that even if I use more beans, I always seem to end up with a more "watery" brew than with some other varieties. It also tasted a little more "woody" or "earthy" than others. Overall I enjoyed these beans, and would buy them again, but I must also say that I prefer Mexican and Guatemalan beans over these Brazilian ones.Pros:+ Always fresh beans+ Clean, "woody" and "earthy" flavor+ Evenly roasted, deep mahogany colorCons:- Seems to produce a more watery brew4While this wasn't my favorite bean/roast, it was still excellentDark roasts are not my first choice, I've realized. While this wasn't my favorite bean/roast, it was still excellent. In general, I have been very pleased with FRC coffee. At this point, I have gone through about 50 pounds of their coffee, various single source beans, and the only times I've been less than impressed were not because of badly roasted or inferior beans, but the character of the beans simply weren't to my taste. Most of the time it was only a matter of adjusting the quantity of beans, grind size, and/or brewing method. But I enjoy the process and experimentation (when I have time); they're part of the experience for me. I can't express in proper coffee review language what exactly I'm tasting, but the cupping notes on the FRC bags have been pretty accurate, by my experience. Fresh Roasted Coffee offers high quality beans at a reasonable price, and I look forward to enjoying the next 50 pounds of FRC coffee.5
