Customer Reviews

Great Product .. Highly RecommendedI have purchased this product multiple times and will do so againI'm happy with this product overall, as someone who has used forearm crutches for 45 years I have tried many brands and these seem to be well made and durable for the most part. The only criticism is that the rubberized coating on the cuffs is too thin and has already started to split on the edges after only a little more than a week but overal the crutches hold up well.I would recommend these crutches to anyone searching for an affordable yet durable pair of crutches. 4Standard Size Cuffs on Bariatric Crutches!?!?These crutches are listed as bariatric and they were purchased for a 300 pound woman with tumors in her spinal cord and Still's disease; both terminal conditions are making walking almost impossible with just a cane and she did not want a wheelchair, she wants to walk as long as possible. This was the solution we were given from one of her doctors and were thrilled to have the option. The crutches arrived, we were thrilled and she tried them and the arm cuffs would not fit her arms (and her arms are not big!) and we were stumped because the crutches are rated for a person up to 500 pounds! We then asked a relative who is normal size to try them and they were tight on his arms (to the point where he said they would not be comfortable for use) and he weighs 185, which is nowhere close to bariatric! We called the manufacturer and they had no solution and told us that the crutch part itself was rated bariatric, not the cuffs; WHAT!?! That is the dumbest thing I have ever heard! So, they are bariatric metal crutches with hard molded plastic standard size cuffs attached, which makes absolutely zero sense. Terribly disappointed! Buyer beware before ordering that Drive Medical informed us that the cuffs ARE STANDARD SIZE CUFFS. We returned the item and that process was wonderful, quick and easy. One star given for the ease of return and how great my transactions are with Amazon. The product deserves ZERO stars! 1The Hard Plastic Molded Cuffs are NOT Adjustable. If you have big arms - AVOID or face pain with breaking the product.I'm a big guy - morbidly obese at 6'0 and 370 lbs. I'm fat, but my forearms are pretty much all muscle. My forearms cannot go in the cuffs and the cuffs are not adjustable. It's painful and it I can't reach/use the cuffs properly. Otherwise, these appear to be very good crutches. The cuffs are an inflexible, hard, molded plastic. I can't use it if I can't get my arms in. If I were 6'6 200 lbs, I'm pretty sure my arms would be too thin for support use. Very disappointing. My wife used to work at Drive Medical, at their corporate headquarters in Port Washington, NY and they have several overweight and morbidly obese employees. It's a bit surprising that this isn't being considered when making these crutches. The cuffs need to be adjustable. They are "bariatric cuffs." The description says it's supposed to be for large people. Again, very disappointing. 1SHE WALK'SThese are the best crutches I've seen around! Extremely comfy and so easy to use that I have cut my wheelchair use in half; I only need it for long distances now and once my muscles get stronger I will be putting my chair on eBay!!!As a kid back in England, I broke my leg very badly so they had to put a hard plaster cast from my toes right up to the top of my thigh but they wouldn't put the walking heel on for the first six weeks so they gave me this kind of crutch and taught me how to use them without putting my bad leg down, and again when I got my walking heel for the last two months..I loved those crutches! However, when I got married and came to the USA, I only ever saw the underarm type crutch and when I became ill I found them too constraining and very easy to take some really bad falls so I had to use my wheelchair. Oh I so longed for my old crutches!I looked online a few times as 'elbow crutches' but no matches. Then about 3 weeks ago I spotted 'forearm crutches' (a huge 'like Duh' moment!) but now the task of choosing! lol I just loved these chrome ones. To quote 'they're very shiny'I find that I can shop great with them because the arm pieces stay attached to your arms leaving your hands free! (I am very thin so my arm pieces were too loose - if you have that problem, just put a rubber band around the curled back edges and Voila!) 5Forearm Cuffs Abnormally Small ...Buyer Beware! As previous buyers have stated, there is a MAJOR FLAW with these forearm crutches! Although the crutch itself is very sturdy (as intended), the forearm cuff is made for someone with a very small forearm (definitely not one of a person who would be characterized as bariatric). My mom who weighs 165 lbs., barely got her arm in the cuff and it was a tight fit.I contacted Drive Medical and requested that it is brought to the attention of their quality team or production, that there is a definite design or manufacturing flaw with this product. I gave the product 2 stars for the sturdiness. Would love to purchase again if this problem could be rectified. Qualifications to use: Up to 500 lb weight limit with pencil size forearms (LOL) 2Excellent Set of Forearm Crutches - Well Made!I needed an extra pair of crutches as my others had worn out from over use. I went to my local pharmacy and was told they could order a pair and they would be in the following day. On pick-up I was shown a cheaply made pair of forearm crutches that I refused to accept and was told, "We can't order a different pair for you." Twice I refused and they just didn't seem to understand how important the right crutches were for me.When I got home I was worried I would not be able to get what I needed without driving from one place to another which is hard for me. I went to Amazon .com and found they had two companies offering the EXACT made crutches I needed at a very good price. I went with "drive Medical Design & Manufacturing" through Amazon. The forearm crutches are essential to my independence as a person with a disability and these crutches are prefect and well made. They appear and feel strong and have push button pins to adjust forearm height and pins for leg part of crutch. The vinyl-coated arm cuffs can be pressed in to make them tighter or looser, depending on your comfort and size of forearm. The vinyl hand grips are very comfortable and because they are vinyl coated you get a good grip. YES, they do have extra-large tips which I like not only for the extra stability but also they will hopefully last longer than the smaller tips.Their appears to be a lower cost set of crutches like these but I preferred to go with the "Heavy Duty" higher coast as I don't like to take chances buying the lower cost crutches as I couldn't tell form the description why the cost was lower than the ones I purchased unless it was because the lower priced was lighter. 5Love Drive products but disappointed in this one.Having MS I have had a variety of Drive products through the years. These were my first set of forearm crutches. Being 350 lbs I figured bariactric forearm crutches would be a good starting point to get walking again. Had to return them because I couldn't get my arms through the cuffs far enough to reach the handle grips. I thought since they were bariatric and support up to 500 lbs. the cuffs would be bigger due to the weight they supported but not the case. Still love drive products just not this one. 2Three StarsRUBBER PEELING OFF OF THE CUFFS THAT GO AROUND FORARM 3Solid design looses a nut and some skin.I purchased this item from Amazon.com in early January, 2015. These crutches are solidly built, capable of supporting heavy loads and have made walking much easier for me. However, one of the nuts holding the cuff to the shaft came off and I can't find it. The remaining nut and bolt combination doesn't hold that cuff to the shaft very well. I have not been able to find a replacement for this part. But for this, I would have given this product a four or five star rating.Update. It is now mid October 2015. One of the arm cradles' rubberized covering has its covering peeling off to the point where it interferes with getting my arm into it. Since the cradle, too, is replaceable, I visited the manufacturer's web site. I couldn't find this model. Better after purchase support would go a long way in improving this rating. Will update as needed. 2This is a pair, not one crutch! Good except cuff.My son has used these crutches before, they are good, except the cuffs. The cuffs fall apart very quickly, and Drive does not sell them separately. Each time you have to buy complete new crutches. Looking at the title and picture, this product description looks like they sell one crutch only, so I was surprised at the high price and ordered two. Today I received 2 pairs! Now I will have to go through the hassle of returning one of them. Too much trouble caused by unclear product description. 3
