Customer Reviews

I'm sold -- incredible effectiveness ...This product is a godsend for those of us who develop venous stasis ulcers due to CVI.I was diagnosed with CVI (Chronic Venous Insufficiency) a year ago but I've been struggling with some of the more troublesome side effects of that condition for several years: venous stasis ulcers, usually much worse in the summer. CVI usually affects the lower legs - the valves in the veins stop working, and blood pools in the calf and ankle. The tissue eventually breaks down, and ulcers develop on the surface. Some folks like me get it in both legs; others in just one. Last year's episode resulted in cellulitis, and 6 weeks of treatment at the wound healing center. I vowed never to go down that path again and followed the Dr's recommendations as to ongoing care (compression knee-highs, etc.).Despite my best efforts (100% compliance/etc.), I again developed a rather impressive set of large ulcers this summer involving both legs. DuoDerm was recommended by a friend in a CVI support group, so I decided to give it a try before calling the center.Applied the patches, cutting to fit where needed, left them in place for 3 days, then removed them after a shower.Unbelievable!! Ulcers were about 80% healed. There were a few nickel-sized raw/weepy spots left, but everything else was fresh clear pink healthy skin. I had been nursing these ulcers along for 6 weeks using bandages and antiseptic sprays with no discernable effect, and in 3 days, DuoDerm had nearly obliterated them.I'm absolutely sold on this product. Seriously, it far exceeded my expectations. I was anticipating maybe some slight improvement, but this was nearly miraculous. So, based on my experience, here are a few tips:1) DO NOT use these as a "change every day"-type dressing. That's not what it's designed for. You need to leave the patch(es) in place for AT LEAST 2-3 days -- instructions say you can leave them in place for up to a week. I changed mine at 3 days only because my ulcers were really "weepy," and .. well ... I could tell by the looks of things that the dressings needed to be changed. They absorb fluid and can hold only so much. So don't slap one of these on and try to change it the next day -- the glue is REALLY sticky and it will likely cause some problems. If you leave it alone until it's ready to come off, it should come off nearly painlessly, with only slight "tug" of the skin around the wound.2) Don't be surprised if the wound starts to itch -- a LOT. I didn't notice any itching *around* the ulcers, but the ulcers themselves tingled and itched. That's the dressing doing it's thing. It was even more noticeable on the second application since there was a lot of new skin in the area and the wound itself was shallower than before. It REALLY itched ... a lot. I have some problems with adhesives and allergies (I get hives/rash/blisters from most Band-Aid products, for example), and this is NOT like that. It's not the skin around the ulcers that is itching so much as the ulcers themselves. Just be prepared.3) As always, SEE YOUR DOCTOR if anything comes up that seems or feels out of whack. I was concerned about the itching but found out that it's a fairly common "side effect." But any redness, rash, etc. should be seen by a doctor ASAP. These don't have latex in them, but you might still have some problems with the adhesive.Bottom line: I'm keeping these on hand from now on as a first line of defense against venous stasis ulcers. The price here on Amazon varies from seller to seller, so definitely "shop around" -- I look for "fulfilled by Amazon" to get the best service, even if I have to pay a few cents more per patch. 5and since I am borderline diabetic my wounds don't like to heal as well as they use tooHave used these patches in the past for deep skin scrapes and other assorted deep wounds that don't want to heal right. I scraped the skin off my knuckle cleaning under the fridge this time, and since I am borderline diabetic my wounds don't like to heal as well as they use too. I cut a small piece off the patch and placed it on my finger holding it in place with a stretchy bandage that sticks to itself, my wound was healed and smooth in 4 days. Love these patches! 5So Happy I found thisA little expensive but this is the only thing that finally healed the 2 pressure sores on my buttocks I ve been dealing with for over eight months. Healed them in one week. I highly recommend them. 5Incredible on flat areasThese bandages are best used on flat areas without much abrasion. Unfortunately I needed it for a sore on the rear end, an area that's round and constantly rubbed against with fabric. Well, if you can keep from moving too much, it works amazingly. I had one hardy bandage that somehow managed to survive the skin stretching and the diaper shifting against it, and I had that on for a week before I decided to change it. It did a wonderful job of sealing out air and urine, and the wound made great progress in healing. I didn't manage to tempt fate with the other ones and they all bunched up above the sore and had to be changed all the time. My fault for getting something meant for flat surfaces. So, if you have an area that can remain flat and rarely disturbed, these bandages will stay for as long as you want and work incredibly well. In fact it works so well that when you take it off you'll need a cleaner designed to remove sticky substances, because it leaves you incredibly sticky. 4DuoDerm: A Cyclist's Dream Come True!I like to think I play hard which is why on average of every 2-3 months, I end up with some serious road rash for one reason or another. (Mostly road biking, and trail running...or should I say road, and trail falling?) Duo Derm has saved my body from pretty significant scars. Most recently, I slid down an asphalt hill on my hip at 20 MPH. Duo Derm is the only reason I was able to wear pants without them sticking to the wound. After changing the patch about every 2-4 days for about 10 days, I had new skin under it that never even scabbed over. This stuff is worth every penny! 5Amazing productTook my family doctor to explain that I could actually get an "unhealable" surgery wound to heal by using this stuff. It's like tire patch for your skin that "draws out" the crap and helps an "exudating" (oozing) wound to heal. Very affordable, and you can cut the sheets to fit the wound so you don't waste it.Only thing I did not like about it was I was told it should go for 5 to 7 days, but usually "blew" after only two days. I took to applying gauze on the outside before wrapping the works...Great product. Highly recommended. 5Great for bed soresMy husband's accident last year left him a paraplegic. Because anyone who can't move will get pressure sores, even with his caregivers and I being careful to change his position often, he gets them on his bum. The home health nurse recommended these, and I'm really thrilled with them. Just stick one on the affected area (no other adhesive needed) and change it every 2-3 days. This doesn't mean we don't have to continue monitoring and changing his position, but I no longer worry about it. 5Magical!I laid my motorcycle down and had horrible road rash on both knees and elbows. The gauze the hospital put on my wounds was sticking to the injuries and hurt like hell to remove. My boyfriend told me about Duoderm and I was desperate and bought some. My rash has healed without scarring. Effing amazing! Initially I ordered the thick pads, which were great because my injuries were on parts of the body that easily hit objects. I then purchased the thin ones. I forgot I was even wearing them.Duoderm saved my skin and saved me from pain. I recommend it to everyone with sores, burns or rashes. I will ALWAYS keep some on hand. I suggest you do as well! 5Works well on most skin wounds. The adhesive is strong. The Duoderm hydrocolloid dressing works really well to help heal skin, especially bedsores. However, we reached a point with a senior at home that used it where they couldn t use it anymore. The person was very responsive to duoderm in the past. But there must be something in the plastic formulation of the bandage that made them overly sensitized and started to cause uncontrollable itching. So, the duoderm ended causing more skin injury as a result. The adhesive is strong when applied to cleaned skin. But the bandage will fail if there is powder or grease on the applied area, and pretty much fall off. 4This Dressing Saved Me!Well, maybe that's a bit overstated, but I had some major surgical wounds that became infected and I was in more pain and discomfort from the changing of the tape than I was from the actual wound dressing. Not only that, but on several occasions, my skin was torn and bled from paper tape removal. Then my surgeon recommended Duoderm and everything changed. We used the Duoderm on the skin next to the wounds so that the dressings could be changed multiple times per day and the paper tape could be anchored to the Duoderm instead of to my skin. We changed the Duoderm every 7 days or sometimes more frequently if it got soiled. It was such a huge improvement in wound care for me. It took 8 months for everything to heal, so this was truly a wonderful discovery. This product ROCKS! 5
