Made healing easy for a mallet fingerThis is the best splint I've ever used for a mallet finger. It made my life easier as I was still able to use the keyboard, wash dishes, take a shower, etc. without having to take it off. I recommend getting the set because as the swelling goes down you may need a smaller splint. 5Worth the money - You can shower with this on, and get it as wet as you need.About a week ago I suffered what I think is called an extensor tendon separation on the DIP joint of the ring finger, on my right hand. The splint I was provided was not exactly water friendly. This one is, and provides sufficient support for my injury. What I most enjoy when wearing my Oval-8, is that it is water resistant and can be worn (wet) when showering or washing hands. If I have to wear a splint for up to eight weeks, I really need to be able to wash it and the finger it is on. Also, most people will not notice it. It is a pinkish brown flesh color. I do wear the other splint at night to relieve the pressure areas that this has. I am glad that I bought the 'sizing set' because the size I measured on my un-injured finger was 1 size smaller than what I actually needed. I imagine that as the swelling goes down, a smaller size will be needed. 5Works great for my mallet finger injuryThis has been the most convenient and comfortable splint that I've worn so far for my mallet finger. Right now, with relative ease, I'm typing this, which was previously difficult. I've seen some mention that it can be a bit uncomfortable on the skin, which I did find. However, I wrapped the finger first with some athletic tape to stabilize it a bit and then put on the splint. It's very comfortable this way and even feels a bit more secure as far as slippage is concerned. The only limitation that I can see is that when I do my weightlifting, I will have to wear the other splint with the harder metal support. This plastic splint might break under the stress. 5Requires Tape, and Sizing is UnreliableI really wanted to like these... such a simple design, and so discreet. It took me $66 to figure out that a shortened popsicle stick and two 1" woven bandaids work every bit as well.I measured the knuckle of my trigger-thumb quite carefully, several times, even using the cut-out from the website's instructions. That knuckle is a size 8, so I purchased the 8 - 9 - 10 sized set.I couldn't begin to get the 8 on, but the larger side of the size 9 worked.I wore it as it is pictured for use on the thumb.I put it on around noon, and by evening my thumb had swollen all around the device.Nevertheless, I had to fish it out of the toilet once during the day, and it would slip off when I washed my hands or the dishes.I figured the 10 would go over my swollen thumb, but it had already disappeared.... nowhere to be found. (it's still missing!)I decided to buy the whole set, so I could get a proper fit.It wasn't even shipped for 7 days, and then it took another five days to arrive.I needed a splint right away!I devised one, using a shortened crafting stick and two sticky bandages, and it worked very well. When the set arrived, I found the best fit was the smaller side of the size 10... a snug, yet comfortable fit.Yep... it went into the toilet bowl, into the sink and shower... what good's a splint that comes off when your thumb is slippery? So then I put a bandage around the knuckle to keep from losing it.I need a second bandaid that covers the top ring of the device, and a bit of my thumbnail, to keep the tip of my thumb from snapping. It happens a little bit, and only sometimes, while using the hand. It needed more rigidity to keep it from bending at all.I tried using the size 12, turned in the opposite direction, overtop of the size 10. It did keep the thumb from bending at all, and held them both in place quite well, but after a couple of hours there was swelling. Thus, I am back to the size 10 and two bandaids... a step up from a crafting stick? nah... 'bout the same. 3Best purchase for mallot finger/baseball thumb!I took a bad fall and hurt my thumb, leaving it bent at the joint and not working. It was diagnosed as mallot finger or baseball finger. The doctor put a metal splint and wrapping tape on it (see middle picture)and said keep it like that for 8 weeks. Within days the splint/wrap was driving me crazy and I could feel my skin deteriorating under the splint-even though I wrapped it freshly every day. I searched the internet and found this "Oval 8" and began using it.It worked great and left my skin free and allowed me easy movement. Easy to shower with and wash hands. You need to get this box with all the sizes to determine the right fit for you. I also added a strip of moleskin for additional comfort.Don't waste time or money on all the other contraptions for splints. THIS IS IT! Even at my 5 week follow doctor appointment, my hand specialist doctor was impressed. He had not see this contraption before.Thank you Oval 8. I 5Works great/more breathableI bought the multiple sizes because my finger was so swollen (mallet finger). These braces are so much better than what the doctor gave me. My finger was feeing so hot and claustrophobic in the thick plastic of braces with tape. This is more breathable and works the same! Much better!!! 5Works wellI injured my finger playing ball (mallet injury) and needed a splint. Found these online and decided to try them. I found that this works really with with some medical tape to hold it in place. My doctor says I should have used this immediately after the injury. Sizing is very important and I'm glad I bought this sizing kit to get the right size. I'm wearing the size 6 splint from the kit and I ordered a set of 5 size 6 to use. The downside is the cost because these are pricey. 4Great for amateur finger repairsI jammed my finger and did my searching on the internet. I have self diagnosed Mallet Finger. I tried the splints, but I never made it through a night where I woke up with it still on. I could also not type or use my finger on a touch pad or touch screen with a traditional splint. Thus, I took the splint off a bunch. The Oval-8 made it through the night and it allows me to do things like type or use devices with the bad finger. I will see how it heals, but so far it is much better than a traditional splint. The sizing set is a little expensive, but I can't think of a way of getting around buying it. Ultimately, I think it is worth it. 5Nothing else like itLike I said above, there really is nothing else on the market that I could track down like an Oval-8 Splint. I jammed my middle finger on my right hand and tore the tendon giving myself "mallet finger". That's a condition where the very end of the finger droops at that last joint because the muscle isn't attached any longer to pull it back to straight, while the muscle on the bottom side still pulls. Over time the finger gets more and more "fixed" in that mallet position. With the size 8 splint I am able to keep my finger nice and straight. It is comfortable, like having a ring, sort of, on your finger, eventually you get used to it and hardly notice it. I have been wearing mine for about 4 months, about 5 days out of 7, and I've not had a single person even notice it and ask what is it. So it's pretty much invisible. If you hurt your finger recently, like within a couple days, ORDER THESE ASAP and pay for the fastest shipping you can afford. My own finger would have probably healed perfectly with an Oval-8 splint but the doctor put one of those plastic tube-type splints on my finger and it didn't fit - - too big, too much room for the finger to bend inside of it - - and my own finger healed with a "tweak" at the end. Whatever position you fix it in while healing is what you are going to get. I WISH I would have known about Oval-8. I wish even more that the doctor had known. Live and learn.I also suggest getting this whole set. Yes, it SEEMS expensive. But when there is NO SUBSTITUTE available anywhere, in my opinion, in that regard its not as expensive as it could be. Plus, this is something that you should have in your first aide kit and having every size will come in hand. When I first put one on my finger I had to use size 10 due to the swelling. I went down to 9 then down to 8, which I wear all the time now.I also discovered another use or these splints. I have a hammer-toe developing on my right foot, the toe next to the big toe is curling up. Look up hammer toe if you don't know what I'm talking about. Anyway, this is becoming painful and the foot doc said it's live with it or get surgery. But surgery could cause complications that are worse and wont guarantee it won't come back anyway. So I searched for different things that I could attach to my toe/foot to try to straighten out that toe. Not much to choose from. THen I thought, why not put my finger splint on it? Now, I want to be VERY CLEAR, this wasn't from any advice from any doctor, this was just my own idea. I've been putting a size 8 on that toe a couple times a week for about an hour at a time and I believe it is helping. It's basically using brute force to make the toe straight. At first it's just pressure but within about an hour my toe feels like it's on fire so I take it off. I'm still experimenting with padding and wraps to lessen the pain. So far, even though it hurts, it definitely reduces the non-stop all-day pain I've been having from that toe being so curled up. It's like being stretched by a trainer. It hurts but afterwards you feel pretty good, limber and relaxed. I believe that if I can increase the time I wear the splint, I will be able to live with this hammer toe indefinitely maybe. Or at least put off surgery for a lot longer.Bottom line, these things last forever, are very tough, and are worth every penny. There is no substitute I know of. If you need a good splint, A GOOD SPLINT, order this express delivery and get it on. 4I bought these with the review of other people and they work great. I can still type and maneuver fineI have trigger finger on middle finger. I bought these with the review of other people and they work great. I can still type and maneuver fine. It helps the tendon stay straight so that it can heal. I have been very impressed with this and would recommend to anyone. 5
